Featured Senior Session with Cherie Phelps
When Connor came to my studio, c. phelps photography in Gretna, NE, he was like many other guys; he was nervous, excited, and wanted to look amazing in his images. If your experience is like mine, you realize that guys need a little more persuasion when it comes to feeling comfortable and confident in front of the camera. I have worked hard to learn to ‘speak guy language’. There is a delicate balance to being cool and coming off like a complete idiot. So I was super excited that as Connor and I worked together, he felt more comfortable with me and together, we were able to create a variety of images that captured his serious side, his intensity and hard work in his sports, and his silly side.
If you follow my blog posts and video tutorials here on Seniors Ignite, you know that I use the tri-grip reflector when I photographed outside and this shoot, not including some of his football images, were no exception. These images were epic! His older sister came along with him to the shoot and when during one of the times he was changing – she threw him under the bus and suggested he do some without is his shirt. #Awkward but #totallyawesome since I knew he was extremely athletic, muscularly cut and worked tirelessly to get that way. For the record, his mom LOVED the shirtless images of her son and commented that he looked so strong and handsome. As a mother of a teenage son, I can appreciate the pride felt when you see evidence of your little boy becoming a man. WhoooRahh!
BRAGNOTE: The images of Connor’s session won my studio the title of Nebraska’s Senior Photographer of the Year for 2013 and I am so proud to have that title again and even more proud to create images, such as these.
